What is the Energize Denver Ordinance?
The Energize Denver Ordinance requires owners of large buildings to benchmark their building’s energy usage and report it to the City of Denver. The City will then publish this data online so that owners can see how each building compares to its peers.
Purpose
The Energize Denver Ordinance was created to improve market valuation of energy efficiency, and aims to see 2-3% savings in energy usage year over year.

The Energize Denver Ordinance covers buildings in the City of Denver and Denver County over 25,000 square feet in size.
What are the deadlines?
The Energize Denver Ordinance requires building owners to report their energy usage annually via the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager tool by June 1st.
What are the fines?
Any buildings not in compliance by the June 1st deadline may be charged a $2,000 penalty.
How do I comply?
The Energize Denver Ordinance requires annual energy consumption reports from each building. Building owners must authorize their utility provider to record and upload their building’s energy data to EPA’s Portfolio Manager, a reporting tool that allows building owners to compare their building’s energy efficiency with similar buildings.
