Los Angeles building owners:

WegoWise can help you comply with the Existing Buildings Energy & Water Efficiency Program

What is the Existing Buildings Energy & Water Efficiency Program?

EBEWE requires owners of large buildings to benchmark their building’s energy usage and report it to the City of Los Angeles. The City will then publish this data online so that owners can see how each building compares to its peers.

Purpose

The purpose of EBEWE is to reduce energy and water usage in buildings citywide in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Does it impact me?

EBEWE covers buildings greater than 20,000 square feet (7,500 square feet for buildings owned by the City).

What are the deadlines?

EBEWE requires building owners to report their energy usage annually via the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager tool by June 1st. Beginning in January 2019, buildings will also need to submit initial audits and/or retro-commissioning reports beginning the year covered by the last digit of the building’s Assessor's Identification Number (AIN) and every 5 years thereafter.

What are the fines?

Buildings that do not comply with the Existing Building Energy & Water Efficiency Program by the deadline will be publicly disclosed and may be charged a compounding fine.

How do I comply?

EBEWE requires annual energy and water consumption reports from each building. Building owners must authorize their utility providers to record and upload their building’s energy data to EPA’s Portfolio Manager, a reporting tool that allows building owners to compare their building’s energy efficiency with similar buildings.

WegoWise provides Los Angeles building owners with hands-free compliance by interfacing with Portfolio Manager and completing all aspects of the reporting process. Fill out the form to get started with compliance!
